Hello! When would be the best time to visit weather-wise - early October or early November? Is there that much of a difference? It seems like from what I%26#39;ve read November can be pretty rainy down there.
We will be coming from Western New York. Our winter can go from late October to mid-April so we will definately be looking for one last nice warm weather experience down South before we come back to face the months and months of cold grey days up here! It seems like early October would be better but we don%26#39;t want to chance the possibility of hurricane or tropical storm.
Weather
Early October can still be humid, so you%26#39;re likely to get more rain. The summer is our rainy season, when it rains almost every day.
Winter is typically the dry season down here, and November weather can be quite pleasant. I%26#39;d recommend early November over early October weather.
Weather
Curious: I like that reference. Well, the weather is always up in the air here, as I am sure it is in New York. I would recommend you come here in November, probably before Thanksgiving, as the lodging rates might be slightly lower. We usually do the French Quarter, as I would assume you are referring as to your destination, although you did not specifically so state, at that time because the weather is more pleasant and cool and less rainy.
If you are coming from the Buffalo area, you can have a lot of lake affected snowfalls that time of the year. We do not have that phenomenon, but we do have a lake, which also influences our weather pattern and keeps it a little more milder in late fall and winter, the opposite of your situation.
Early October here could be quite warm, compared to where you are from, but maybe not all that undesirable in your case, as you mention ';one last nice warm weather experience';. This year, we have basically not had a winter. Last year it snowed during Christmas week. This is rare for us here. We are not hot weather folk, and prefer the milder climate conditions we have here in the early spring and mid fall. Fall is our most favorite time of the year.
Hurricane wise, October has, in my imagination and experience been on the down side of the scale. Our season does run from June 1 through 11/30, but, and there is a lot of factors involved here for which there is insufficient time and space to spend, October is not one of our busiest months for storms.
Famous last words...LOL. Seriously, the Atlantic and Carribbean has produced some storm activity, during the month of October, but the Gulf of Mexico does not seem to cooperate with the warm water temps so we seem to have the upper hand. Anyway the possibility of a hurricane visiting at that time would be available to the visitor via the local news, long before it could possibly visit anywhere and you should be so advised to check the appropriate weather channel and put your mind at ease
Could not avoid reading that you have been a T/A member since Sept. 05, yet with only 7 posts. Guess we should welcome you here to New Orleans, and wish you a pleasant visit, the best weather we can offer considering all the parameters involved and the rest will take care of itself.

Thanks to you both! And yes . . . I%26#39;ve been a tripadvisor member for a long time. Although I%26#39;ve been travelling the last few years for business, I%26#39;m sad to say that it%26#39;s been a couple years since I%26#39;ve travelled just for fun so I may start to rack up some more forum posts before this trip! I%26#39;ve wanted to visit for a very long time so I%26#39;m really looking forward to it!
Curious: Good for you. Do not ever be shy about asking any question about The Crescent City on this forum. If the residents here cannot answer the question, I am more than certain someone from somewhere else can.
Also, if you are coming to visit, check back just before you leave, a week or two at least, and get in that last minute request for info.
If you come here once...you will come back.
