Lake Pontchartrain activities?

We%26#39;ll be staying at the Marriott Metairie Lakeway on the shores (kinda) of Lake Pontchartrain at the end of April. What kind of activities would be available in this area? We%26#39;re just staying for a day before our week long stay at the Marriott downtown so we%26#39;re not interested in doing NOLA stuff - we%26#39;ll have time for that. Just wondering what%26#39;s to do right in that area.

Thanks!

The Metairie area is pretty suburban. Typical suburban things, too, like malls, restaurants and neighborhoods. You%26#39;ll absolutely need a car in this area, too, although the Marriott may provide shuttle service to/from Lakeside Mall, one of the better shopping centers.

I have friends that go fishing on the lake, but it%26#39;s a nice, quiet picnic spot too. http://www.saveourlake.org/recreation.htm

Definitely not interested in mall, shopping, etc. More interested in lake activities. Are there boat rentals? Boat trips? Beach? Picnicking? Etc, etc.

Thanks!

If you don%26#39;t mind renting a car, I suggest a trip across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway (which is an adventure in itself for newbies) and lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants overlooking the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville.

I don%26#39;t know if boats are available for rent in Madisonville, but a phone call to one of these restaurants would probably produce that information.
