I was just wondering about the effect the Regis and Kelly show had on the French Quarter. I know that the influx of money is helpful, but I also know that so many people in such a small area can be a problem. When a show like that comes into town, just how does it effect the street traffic, etc?
Regis and Kelly
You%26#39;re asking that of a city that has a festival at the drop of a hat-we%26#39;d even stop traffic for a Cockroach Festival if it boiled up good. Its localized..just wait until the French Quarter festival stretching from Harrahs to the Old Mint and inward.
Regis and Kelly
R%26amp;K have no discernable impact when they are here filming as it is pretty much confined to the Fulton Street mall next to Harrah%26#39;s along with a few random
';on location'; shots around town. When we%26#39;ll actually ';feel'; the presence is when people who see their show start to visit the city.
All this week I have urged people to watch the show because too many people still have the opinion it is still in post-Katrina shape, and even more still believe all NOLA is is Bourbon Street. I say ';Look!! Regis and Kelly are down there doing all sorts of things besides drinking and gambling!';
I was just wondering about the daytime impact with traffic, etc, during the early morning hours. Lets hope they bring a whole new group of visitors to your great city. There are few places finer.
I was there last weekend and actually physically ran into Kelly (whoops!), they were in front of the Cathedral and I was totally unaware of it, I was trying to dodge the balloon guy coming at me so I was looking in his direction, next thing I know I bumped into this tiny, I mean, TINY little blonde in a coral dress and it took me a second to realize who it was. I didn%26#39;t notice any change in the street traffic, although a little crowd was forming in the plaza in front of the Cathedral. Other than that, it didn%26#39;t seem to have much of an effect on things.
I am watching Regis and Kelly everyday...we will be there for the FQ festval and they are getting us SO excited,have written down a few ideas they gave us.I love to see them bring more attention to a great city!!
I watched today and was overjoyed to see Leah at Dookie Chase serving Gumbo to Regis. So happy her restaurant has bounced back. It was a disaster only a couple of years ago. God bless her,and I will be in town next week for FQF and can NOT wait!
