My wife and I want to go, but we have a one year old in tow....should we bail, or do you think we can still get a lot out of what New Orleans has to offer? We are not big night life people, so we dont mind missing out on that.

I%26#39;m sure that you may get different opinions BUT when our children were that young, we always rented a condo at the beach. We all needed rest and that was the best solution. I would wait on NOLA until the child is older and can enjoy the Aquarium, Zoo, Children%26#39;s Museum, Mardi Gras World, etc. I think you would have a much better time as well.
1 year old in New Orleans
My wife and I had been going to New Orleans on an annual basis when we had our first child. We didn%26#39;t want to stop our yearly jaunt, and after a second child, we were no longer able to leave the kids with family. As a result, we%26#39;ve been down twice with our eldest when she was ages 3 and 4.
It%26#39;s a different trip than before we had kids, but there%26#39;s still a lot to enjoy. Our daytime routine hasn%26#39;t changed - walking the quarter, browsing stores on Royal, etc. It was very easy to push a stroller around, get on/off the streetcars, etc. We even tried out some things we haven%26#39;t before, walking around the park by the zoo, going to the playground at City Park, we even did a swamp tour. Most enjoyable was seeing our daughter dance around Jackson Square.
We still ate at all our favorite places. We%26#39;ve had nice formal dinners at Arnaud%26#39;s, Tujagues, and K-Pauls all of whom we found very accomodating for kids. At the Coffee Pot they fawned over our daughter. It was like she had 5 grandmothers in the room. Cafe du Monde was also a big hit as was a carriage ride.
Obviously, the one area that our routine did change is partaking of Bourbon Street and the nightlife. It wasn%26#39;t that big of a deal. We made a deal where my wife would shop in the afternoon while I stayed at the hotel for my daughter%26#39;s nap time, and in turn, after dinner I got to go to Harrah%26#39;s.
All in all, it was a different but still great experience. There was something refreshing about getting up at 8am without a hangover and for the first time seeing the city waking up.
Best of all, even though she is still really young, it felt good to pass-down one of our favorite traditions. My daughter has already asked if we%26#39;re going again this year. I haven%26#39;t told her yet, but this year we%26#39;re taking our 20 month old in May while she goes to Grandma%26#39;s. Shhhh....
