Luxuary Hotel and Non-allergenic

I%26#39;m planning a trip to New Orleans in May to celebrate my 50th birthday. My family is joining me and a couple of them are concerned about old ducting in the AC systems and mold. Can anyone suggest a top hotel in or near the French Quarter that might be mold-free?

Luxuary Hotel and Non-allergenic

I haven%26#39;t heard of any visitors recently complaining about this problem in any of the major hotels in the city.

Look into some of the nicer hotels like the Ritz Carlton, Omni Royal Orleans, Monteleone and Royal Sonesta.

worldtraveler786, thank you for your reply! My family is seriously concerned about this, so I really appreciate your reply.

On hotels.com, i got a fantastic deal at the Ritz, which tends to always have non-allergenic options. It was around $150 a night!

Just get a newly-built hotel if it really worries you. Try the Loews, for instance.

California: I am assuming, which I very regetably always try and avoid doing as we know exactly what that connotates, that you know the difference between mold and MOLD. Believe me, there is a difference. I do not imagine any of our hotels have a problem with MOLD, either in their duct systems or anywhere else on their premises.

I would however stongly suggest, since you are obviously concerned, due to some allergies in some of your family members, that they might consider bringing their personal bedding, ie: sheets, pillows etc., and this might ease their pretense on the supposed MOLD issue.

We have some friends, and they always do this whenever they travel.

As for ourselves, we inspect the room, and make sure it is clean and if it is not, according to our standards, and considering we are paying the rent, we call housekeeping and ask them to make it so.

Hope your visit is enjoyable.

The mold issue is just hype. Noone%26#39;s AC ducts are spewing mold, or they would be out of business.

Now, mold spores are ubiquitous in this city in general as we get lots of rain and have high levels of humidity. But, again in terms of inhaling mold spores at a level to bother you, this is just a non-issue.

If it were me, I would just make sure I pack my allergy meds. More concerning is the fact that we have lots of flowers, trees and grasses, some that bloom year round. If you have those types of allergies, bring your meds!

I have to agree with lasfloras. Our hotel stock is actually younger than in most cities (most hotels were built since the early 1980s) so modern A/C can be found throughout. Some of the older French Quarter buildings may smell musty from time to time but I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find a true ';mold'; issue.

Perhaps the club section of the Ritz Carlton which is called Maison Orleans would be a good bet. I stayed there a few years ago and it had the feel of a small luxury boutique hotel. It is quite separate from the rest of the Ritz. I found the staff to be extremely attentive especially because they didn%26#39;t have a huge number of guests to look after. Loew%26#39;s might be good because it is a newer hotel although it is large.

I%26#39;m thinking that if you call one of these hotels and discuss your concerns with the front desk manager, you might get an impression of whether the hotel would work for you. I have stayed in a couple of luxury hotels where the air conditioning had mold or mildew issues that aggravated my allergies. I was moved to another room and it was fine. When you%26#39;re in a tropical sort of climate it%26#39;s hard to predict.
