Our NO trip so far

Thanks for the suggestions last week. So far our trip has been great.

Acme Oyster House was our first stop- we loved this place, both the raw oysters and the char grilled oysters. Also had their gumbo and crawfish etoufee- all washed down with Blue Moon on tap with great atmosphere and friendly service.

Had lunch the next day at Redfish Grill, and it was okay but felt somewhat generic. Dinner was at K-Pauls(because we almost ate there 20 years ago). The food was fine but the service was with attitude.

Yesterday we had lunch at Felix%26#39;s, across from Acme(Acme line was too long, and I only had limited time). The char grilled oysters were just as good, but different. I had a half shrimp po-boy and jambalaya. The po-boy was not very good but the jambalaya was decent. Service was very nice but the atmosphere isn%26#39;t as much fun as Acme.

Dinner was at the Gumbo Shop, which was lots of fun. Great spicy bloody mary. The seafood gumbo was wonderful. My wife had a blackened catfish salad and the catfish was excellent- most, flavorful, spicy. I order the creole combination plate, which I should have known better. The shrimp creole arrived not warm enough, the jambalaya was somewhat dry, and the red beans and rice were fine. It felt like my dish had been plated and sat for awhile while waiting for my wife%26#39;s dish. So that was disappointing, but I would go back and focus on gumbo. Service was very nice.

Finished up at Pat O%26#39;Brians- a place I would never have thought we would end up. But the piano bar was full of friendly people of all ages and we sang along until almost 1 a.m..

Didn%26#39;t make it to Rock and Bowl last night- we were just too tired to head out that way at the time. But we will be going to Frenchmen%26#39;s Street tonight for music, and maybe to Coops for lunch today.

Our NO trip so far

Glad to hear you are enjoying your trip. Keep the reports coming. We will be there in two weeks and can%26#39;t wait!

Our NO trip so far

We will be there in two weeks too! Going to go back to Acme....have not been there the last 10 or so visits. I am getting real hungry for NoLa :)

Great report so far, glad you%26#39;re having such a good time! I%26#39;m going in two weeks, also, can almost taste NO

M

Didn%26#39;t get it together to go next week, so I have to wait until July; we are already booked for Halloween though. Can%26#39;t wait to hear about Frenchman and how you liked Coops.

Thanks for the taste of NO...will be there in 3 weeks

Enjoy your trip!!!!

How many of us are going to be there in two weeks? FQF? Can%26#39;t wait!

Okay we had lunch at Coops- and it was my most satisfying meal so far. A table of extremely friendly locals recommended we try the sampler- and we did, along iwth the fried seafood plate. The fried food was fine, but the cajun for was great. Gumbo was rich and delicious, the fried chicken crisp and spicy, the red beans and rice was just right. Even the Creole shrimp was light and tasty.

Service couldn%26#39;t have been nicer.

We went to go to the Friday night show at Snug Harbor but didn%26#39;t realize tickets sell out in advance- so if you are coming, check out Snug Harbor%26#39;s schedule and look into tickets. We watched and listend to Ellis Marsalis from the bar.

Ended up eating at the Gumbo Shop again- again not completely satisfying but still decent. My wife had the blackened catfish salad again, which was excellent. I had BBQ shrimp which was just too messy for me- my problem not theirs. Sauce was tasty though.

Ended up at Fritzel%26#39;s Jazz Bar on Bourbon and had a great time- fun music, friendly place. Oh and stopped in for a night cap at a local bar and ended up hanging out with there for another hour- everyone has been so friendly so far.

Heading out today- going to try to hit Acme again. Some places just too far for us to go without a car and limited schedule, so will have to wait until next time

Ranchgirl:

We (me and fiance) will be in New Orleans starting the 10th, running to the 18th. Changed our return ticket so that we could get a day of the FQF. When are you getting there.

Would love to meet up with other TA%26#39;s...at least for a Hurricane.

JeffSF~

this will probably shock a lot of people....but in the 10yrs that I%26#39;ve been going to NoLa...have NEVER had a hurricane!! Maybe I%26#39;ll jump off the edge and try one....usually stick to spicy blood mary%26#39;s and red wine :) Would love to meet up with you guys...just name the time and place....Thursday would be a great day.

Great report so far! I%26#39;m leaving for NO on Thursday, and you%26#39;re making me hungry. :)
