Trips from New Orleans

A friend and I are going to jazz fest (both weekends), and thought we%26#39;d like to get out of the city for a couple of days in between. We%26#39;ve got a rental car, and want to do some fishing, take in some scenery and get a bit of a feel for Bayou life (music / food etc...).

We%26#39;ve been looking at staying one night in a cabin up in Lake Fausse Point, and maybe one night in Houma, Breaux Bridge, somewhere like that...

Anybody have any thoughts/suggestions?

Trips from New Orleans

Weekends at the cabins at Lake Fausse Point State Park are probably booked up for the rest of this year. You might sneak in during the week, but it%26#39;s unlikely.

A houseboat rental or floating cabin rental from one of these locations near Breaux Bridge can provide both lodging and freshwater fishing.

Trips from New Orleans

Thanks for that Rod. We have secured a reservation in a cabin at Lake Fausse Point for the Tuesday night (and it%26#39;s available Wednesday night if we want it). However, I like the sound of the places you%26#39;ve provided links for, in so far as it sounds like we%26#39;ll be able experience some local cooking and music. Would you recommend that we spend our second night at one of the places you provided? I get the sense that we might be too far from any local culture at Lake Fausse?

Many thanks again for your help.

Congratulations to you for securing one of the cabins at Lake Fausse Point. The area is lovely, and the cabins are very nice. As I recall, each two cabins share a dock, so you may be able to fit in some fishing from the end of the dock.

You%26#39;re correct in that Lake Fausse Point is far from any local culture. However, there isn%26#39;t much in the way of music in that area during the week. Weekends are the best time for bands and dancing. One attraction that may interest you is Vermillionville, in Lafayette.

If you do choose to spend one night on a houseboat in Henderson, possibilities for music and dancing are: Mulate%26#39;s in Breaux Bridge and Randol%26#39;s in Lafayette (about 20 minutes from Henderson). Randol%26#39;s has a band every night of the week. I%26#39;m not sure about Mulate%26#39;s.

There are many good places to eat in Henderson: McGee%26#39;s Landing, Whiskey River Landing, and Pat%26#39;s of Henderson are a few. Whatever you do, don%26#39;t eat at Landry%26#39;s (right next to the Interstate). It%26#39;s a chain and the food doesn%26#39;t compare to the local places.

Thanks, Rod, for your invaluable advice. Very much looking forward to spending some time in the area.

It was my pleasure. Best wishes to you and your friend for an enjoyable trip.

we%26#39;re renting a houseboat from houseboat adventures in June, but have ventured out from NoLA in the past.

Must sees for me are the UCM Museum and Abita Brewery in Abita Springs. The UCM is completely eclectic and a perfect reason why I love crazy cajuns. The Brewery is a nice tour, and has a pretty good restaurant attached.

check them out!
