Roosevelt / Fairmont / Waldorf

Has anybody heard anything recently?

Roosevelt / Fairmont / Waldorf

Last thing I saw was that it would be open by Carnival %26#39;09 as a Waldorf property. That%26#39;s hearsay, so take it for what it%26#39;s worth.

Well, here is some recent business news regarding the hotel: arabianbusiness.com/press_releases/…19262

As for Canal St area construction, there are a bunch of ongoing projects including the Fairmont that hopefully they finish sooner rather than later...

I%26#39;m still moaning the change ----

Pre-K there were a lot of announcements of planned condo developments in the CBD, both new highrises and conversions of former hotels or business bldgs. Several elaborate online architect drawings, prices, etc.

I was almost set to plunk down a deposit. Then came both Katrina AND the national bust in real estate.

Pity. I was almost set to move there by next year or so.

But it is encouraging if Waldorf still has faith ih the city to invest in rehabbing that badly damaged building. We can only wait and see.

Apart from basement flooding (such as happened at the Fairmont) the Central Business District sustained more wind than water damage.

Today, a friend e-mailed to say that the CBD and Uptown are renovating like crazy. With the rising cost of gas, a growing number of people are choosing to live closer to work, i.e. in the city as opposed to out in the %26#39;burbs.

There%26#39;s no question that the Fairmont is going to be renovated.

So the news is encouraging!

';Completion and opening is scheduled for late spring of 2009. ';

Cool - I bet that translates into some cheap introductory rates next summer, probably the only time I%26#39;ll get near the place lol.

I%26#39;m glad it will be named ';The Roosevelt.'; It%26#39;s a neat nod to New Orleans%26#39; past.

I%26#39;m with CajunWave. Glad to see it resurrecting as the Roosevelt once again.

It%26#39;ll surely be a fine day when we can sit in the Sazerac Bar once again.

Light a few candles

Cross your fingers

Burn some incense

Make a novena

....and hope that the new management has enough respect for this historic property to take down the flat-panel TV that some idiot hung in the beautiful Art Deco Sazerac Bar.

I%26#39;m happy about this as well. I had this old tradition that I mentioned in a previous post, that my first stop in town, after checking into my hotel, was heading to the sazerac bar to have, what else, a sazerac. It was this strange but happy time for me to just sit there for an hour and think about the fact I was actually IN New Orleans! It seems counter productive to me as well, I mean I%26#39;m IN New Orleans, why am I sitting in a bar thinking about it! But thats what I did and still do. Now of course my venue has changed.
