Friday-
Arrived and checked in at the Hotel Monteleone. Always wanted to stay there and got a great rate. Small hotel rooms, but still loved the stay. Staff was excellent.
Ate at Desire Oyster Bar at the Royal Sonesta. Walked around the Quarter to get the fiance used to the area. Early night with a drink at the Carousel bar.
Saturday-
Breakfast in the hotel ';Le Cafe';. Walked around the Quarter until we met with our wedding planner at the Chartres house cafe. Spoke with her about wedding ideas, decided Easter 2010 sounded good. Ceremony in either Jackson Square or Park behind risers looking over Jackson Square. 2nd line to reception at the Chartres house cafe :-)
Took the St Charles Streetcar for a great and cheap tour. Dinner at Margaritaville to please the fiance (not a fan)
Sunday-
Easter! Brunch at Muriel%26#39;s which was great bc we got to see all the excitement around Jackson Square. Muriels was great and next year I have to remember to get a hat!
Chris Owens parade (can%26#39;t believe she%26#39;s 91) and a nap at the Monteleone since it was supposed to rain. Woke up for dinner at the Acme Oyster House and had a few drinks at Pat O%26#39;Briens
Monday-
Breakfast at Cafe du Monde + Oak Alley Plantation tour. Took up most of the day, but we still had time to take a shorter carriage tour through the quarter. Did our usual walk around the quarter and ate dinner at Coop%26#39;s Place. I am usually a fan of Coop%26#39;s but this time was a miss. Plus I used the restroom and there was cockroaches EVERYWHERE. Dead, alive, walking, on their backs flinging their legs...ugh!
Nap and then danced to a cover band at the swinging door. Then headed to the Cat%26#39;s meow for some karaoke.
Tuesday-
Breakfast at Monteleone and walked around the quarter enjoying the sights and people again before the plane ride home.
A great trip and my fiance is very excited we%26#39;ll be getting married there next Easter. Hopefully we can squeeze in one more long weekend trip this year!
Trip report! April 10-14th (Easter weekend)
Thanks for sharing...we will be there next week so this is wonderful
Trip report! April 10-14th (Easter weekend)
Tanya, Sounds like a great scouting trip. I%26#39;m going to a NOLA wedding this weekend, and the couple is getting married in City Park, on the Park Terrace, and the reception is in the beautiful hall there, overlooking the park. If you%26#39;d like, I can send you some pictures afterward, in case this may be a possible venue for that Easter Wedding next year! Good luck with your plans,
Mimi
Tanya,
Please keep me posted on your wedding plans! My fiance and I plan on a NOLA wedding next year. We are looking at St. Louis Cathedral, and are bringing our own priest to make it more personal. We absolutely want a second line, but we don%26#39;t know to where!! Also, since we have been engaged forever due to Catholic redtape, all we want as wedding gifts are for our family and friends to make the trip for our wedding. Maybe a party of 50 or so. If you would be so gracious, I would really appreciate your experiences as you plan your wedding!!
My email is cerelife@yahoo.com
Thanks!
Michaelle
Thanks for your report, and I%26#39;m sorry about your experience at Coop%26#39;s. The roach problem gets only worse this time of year, and I%26#39;ve had the same issue recently at Port of Call too!
cerelife, I heard to book the St Louis Cathedral it%26#39;s about a year wait and you have to go to pre-marital counseling and it%26#39;s $$$, so we decided to just get married OUTSIDE of the St Louis Cathedral, lol.
mimiwiz, City Park sounds like a nice idea. I%26#39;m ashamed to say I%26#39;ve never been to Mid City. I%26#39;ll bring it up to the wedding planner.
worldtraveler786, Coop%26#39;s was a sad let down. I have previously eaten there on multiple occasions. Food was still good, and I can even get over bad service, but the cockroach thing was terrible. And they weren%26#39;t in the bar, just when you walked out into that courtyard where the restrooms are. But they do have a cute kitty named Stella that hangs out. She was snuggling her cat bed in the front window.
I%26#39;ll definitely keep everyone up to date on the wedding plans. I really liked staying at the Monteleone, but for the wedding I was considering blocking some rooms at the Place D%26#39;arms since they have free wi-fi and a continental breakfast. Would you guys stay at the Place D%26#39;arms for your honeymoon?
We didn%26#39;t stay at the Place d%26#39;Armes - we stayed at the Le Pavillon - but another pair that we came across stayed this past weekend at Place d%26#39;Armes and complained of uncomfy beds...so something you may want to investigate a little bit more.
Tanya, glad you made it back. Another trip, more memories and good times.
Wedding in NO sounds fabulous. What a great time. Congratulations.
Go Tribe!
Um, Coops...roaches...worse??? Oh dear. I was so sad to read this. I%26#39;ve had Coops on my list of places to eat all along, and this turned my stomach big time. I mean, I know they%26#39;re everywhere. It%26#39;s nearly unavoidable to a degree. But man, for me, there%26#39;s some real truth to ';what you don%26#39;t know can%26#39;t hurt you'; when it comes to this. Please tell me it will be okay? Stella the Cat is on bug patrol. The roaches actually hate the fried chicken at Coops. The drinks I will consume will render me immune to any and all disease. Right??? lol
Glad you had a great trip, btw, and thanks so much for sharing it! How awesome to have a NOLA wedding! :):):)
St Louis does make you book FAR in advance, and we have to have the marriage counseling anyway for a Catholic wedding. It is something like $2500 to be married in the church, but hey, at least we don%26#39;t need any extra decoration!!
Please keep me posted on your findings. We too were thinking of booking everyone at Place D%26#39;Armes. We usually really enjoy it there.
