Just back from a fantastic trip to NOLA and wanted to share our reviews. 2 couples, mid to late 40%26#39;s
Stayed at the Loews on Poydras - perfect location, walked most everywhere, good bar(not as great as other reviewers noted). REALLY good massage at the spa. Very nice rooms, houskeeping wasn%26#39;t the best but okay...... NOW for the FOOD!
Palace cafe - even though it%26#39;s been getting mixed reviews lately, it was FABULOUS! Had the crabmeat cheesecake, BBQ shrimp, crabclaws for apps and then the pecan encrusted redfish and the andouille encrusted mahi. The guys got crawfish peeled and sauteed on the side. YUM! Should have gotten a table by the window but forgot to ask.
Irene%26#39;s was just wonderful the next night. SOO glad we got a reservation as some had been waiting for more than an hour. We were seated in 5 minutes and had a delicious meal with the best escargot I have ever had! Both guys got the duck and it was amazing. I had alot of wine and can%26#39;t remember what I had for dinner but it was REALLY GOOD!! :) Seth was a phenomenal waiter.
BEST meal of the entire trip.... Yo-Mama%26#39;s burger%26#39;s!! TA always gives me such amazing advise and this trip was no different. You simply MUST eat here. Hole in the wall.. Bloody Mary%26#39;s to die for! HUGE burgers and potatoes. 4 of us split 3 burgers with potatoes (burger with salsa, avocados and jalapenos was unbelievable)and 1 order of crawfish. We were stuffed! Also ate lunch at Johnny Po-Boys...mediocre at best. Neat experience, met cool people in line and that worked there, could have done without the Po-Boy. Last night there we watched the Final Four at Cooter Browns. Loved the cable car trip (very long but beautiful homes to see). I%26#39;m not a beer drinker, but if you are, THIS is the hole in the wall bar for you! TONS of beers and HUGE TV%26#39;s. Great sports bar..average food.
Oh, also got Bloody Mary%26#39;s at Mr B%26#39;s for $1.50! Kept going back for more as we explored the area. Great and had the pickled string beans in them. My fav%26#39;s were at Yo- Mama%26#39;s though.
Best blues was at the Funky Pirate although Big Al gets a little creepy talking to the young girls.... but oh, what a voice!
Enough for now! Thanks for all the advise!
Trip report - Palace cafe, Irene's, Yo-Mama's, etc
Enjoyed the report...Big Al sure teases the girls but he has a method to his madness as he selects the one most likely to get more tips in the band%26#39;s tip bottle as she brings it around the bar. Last time at Johnny%26#39;s Po-Boys mine was not up to usual standards there either. Next time at Yo Mama%26#39;s try the gumbo yaya too.

Thanks for your report! One gripe - you stayed at the Loews but no Cafe Adelaide?! :(
Thanks for your report, I enjoyed it. So glad that you got to Irene%26#39;s as it is always our last night stop. Others should take your advice and MAKE RESERVATIONS, it sure saves a long wait. A truly wonderful place.
We also enjoy Palace Cafe, and their wonderful crabmeat cheesecake, although other here are not as enthusiastic.
Cooter Brown%26#39;s is not on everyones list, but a great place for LOTS of beers. The final four was a bonus. Have never eaten there, (as there are just too many other favorites), but have had a beer or two there ;D.
I%26#39;ll echo Big Al%26#39;s methods. He%26#39;s looking for the maximum amount of tips, and usually chooses a good looking female to pass the jar. I really can%26#39;t blame him. I usually request a song, and he always obliges, and then I can get a song for my tip. What a voice, indeed!
So glad you had a great time.
