I am gearing up for my 8th (9th?) visit to New Orleans in June. We will be there for 48 hours, long enough to hit our favorite spots. We were discussing these spots and the fact that we have never made it out of the French Quarter to Magazine Street even though the forum posters here have helped me with directions and suggestions. Somehow we have this huge laziness hit us and we suddenly decide to stay in the Quarter eating fried chicken and going to the same few shops. So my question is: do the locals and other people in the know believe that Magazine is all its cracked up to be? We are mainly just browsers of jewellry and eaters of food (and we STILL haven%26#39;t exhausted all the places in the Quarter to eat.) It seems that many of the stores I see advertised also have sister stores in the Quarter. So should we feel like we are missing out if we sit in the square watching that robot instead?
should we bother?
I love Magazine Street but you need a car to ';do it right.'; Otherwise, you%26#39;re kinda confined to certain strips of shops/restaurants.
I would highly recommend it.
should we bother?
By all means go to Magazine Street and don%26#39;t miss the Bon Ton Cafe in the 400 block. You can do it in sections by driving and walking up one side and back down the other and moving the car up..section by section.
If you visit Magazine St, you%26#39;ll get a much more ';local'; vibe, since locals tend to eat and shop here way more than in the French Quarter! Plus, there are some AMAZING restaurants and cafes on Magazine St like Casamento%26#39;s, Lilette, Rue de la Course, Sucre, La Divina, etc...
there%26#39;s a great jewelry/art gallery on 1804 Magazine called Thomas Mann Gallery. I%26#39;ve been able to find some really amazing one of a kind pieces there, and it%26#39;s very close to one of my favorite new orleans restaurants, %26#39;Juans Flying Burrito%26#39;. Also, %26#39;Trashy Diva%26#39; a vintage inspired clothing store is right next door as well-great finds!
