Hello! I grew up in Memphis, but have never been to New Orleans. I am returning to Memphis for a visit in June and considered going to NOLA for the weekend. Anyone have any cheap itineraries/suggestions to maximize the trip? Thanks!

Definitely fly/drive down. New Orleans is great, especially if you love good music and food! Try to stay within the French Quarter to maximize your experience - there are many hotels in this area that fit all price ranges!

Tad: If you drive to NO from Memphis, it is about an 8 hr drive, with a stop in Jackson for a break, gasoline and maybe lunch or whatever.
You can get on line, on this site and get an idea of the prices for lodging in the area, and the French Quarter.
The French Quarter is an historic experience, with many sites and sounds and the food here is like no other place you could imagine and in all price ranges.
So, with that time frame for driving, you can plan your activities here with your remaining weekend schedule and go from there.
Hope your visit is enjoyable.
I have lots of family in Memphis, and it takes me 5.5 hours to drive between Memphis and New Orleans, with a short stop in Jackson for gas/snacks. There is also train service between Memphis and New Orleans, if you don%26#39;t want to drive yourself.
My daughter lives on Mud Island takes about 6 hours..usually we stop in Madison,MS since it%26#39;s easy to stop for gas and quick meal and jump back on I-59.
NO is much like Memphis...good eats, good music and good(%26amp; bad) neighborhoods. Beale St is very much like Bourbon, except Bourbon is longer and doesn%26#39;t close at 3am. Our zoo and adjacent park is nice and there%26#39;s always some sort of free entertainment/festival going on in the city/metro area.
Definitely read the posts on restaurants...you don%26#39;t have to spend a lot to eat great food here.
Enjoy!
