Favorite Bar and Drink in New Orleans

So excited about our first trip next week! We%26#39;re all planned but want a list of cool bar names in my head as we%26#39;re walking around!

So tell me what%26#39;s your favorite bar and what do you drink there? You know that one spot with that special libation that makes you sigh and say ';Now I%26#39;m in New Orleans!';

Cheers!

Favorite Bar and Drink in New Orleans

For me, that%26#39;s an easy one. My wife and I love Lafitte%26#39;s Blacksmith Shop. It%26#39;s at the far end of Bourbon, so away from the craziness. It%26#39;s dark, funky and fun. The Hurricanes there are the best on Bourbon to us... not overly sweet, undrinkable like most others. The Pimms Cup at Napolean House is very good, but the place itself is nothing special.

I have to agree on Lafitte%26#39;s. Both fun during the day %26amp; at night when there is only candle-light %26amp; a piano player.

Not only did we like the hurricanes the best, but we also preferred the Blood Marys over any other.

That was our 1st stop...then we went there 3 other times as well!

Lafitte%26#39;s has great atmosphere but I prefer the Hurricanes from Pat O%26#39;Brien%26#39;s which is my favorite place.

I have to disagree with the other poster who said Napoleon House is nothing special...wow, to me that is the most interesting building (and a great place to eat) in New Orleans! However, I don%26#39;t think that it is a place where I would just sit and have a drink, maybe that is what the poster meant.

Yep, have to disagree also. Drop the bags, then after lunch at Acme or Coop%26#39;s, we always hit Napolean House for a Pimm%26#39;s cup, one there, one to go, then a walk around Jackson Square. We are officially there at that point.

we%26#39;ve been going to new orleans since 1994 and lafitte%26#39;s blacksmith shop is our favoriite. the best hurricane in town. also try the black voodoo drink. i don%26#39;t know whats in it but it%26#39;s stronger tnan a hand grenade ( trust me ). we always start out in the am and end up the night at the blacksmith shop.

Favorite bar is the Funky Pirate, favorite drink, (especially on the 2nd day forward), is the Bloody Mary. Fantastic with the pickled green beans and okra, olives and nice and spicy, the way we like them. Fun music 4-8.

Also Lafitte%26#39;s and their hurricane. I also love just sitting in the Pirate%26#39;s Alley Cafe at night. They used to have tours stop there, and we%26#39;d leave during those times.

Note, it%26#39;s been a long time since I%26#39;ve been there though. But we fix that in 29 days. ;)

Favorite bar for music is the Finky Pirate. Big Al is not to be missed. Favorite bar to watch sports or a blue-collar drink is Johnny White%26#39;s.

Napoleon House is, without a doubt, my favorite interior in all of New Orleans. It%26#39;s the first place I go when I get to town, and the last place I go on the day of my departure.

I don%26#39;t necessarily think NP makes the best drinks, however. My favorite bartenders for a classic Sazerac, Ramos Gin Fizz, Vieux Carré, or Milk Punch are Chris Hannah at Arnaud%26#39;s 75, and Chris McMillian at the Renaissance Père Marquette hotel.

Agree with Paul that Big Al is amazing, but our real favorite at the Funky Pirate is Mark Penton, who plays before Big Al. He plays there Thurs-Mon 4-8 as well as around the FQ and Frenchmen with his own band and with others. If you have not heard him, give it a try. I think thay you will love him as we do.
