Staying at the Royal Orleans while attending a wedding in a couple of weeks and already have some more refined dinner plans for Friday night and wedding Saturday night, but will be out walking around during the day Friday afternoon and Saturday and would love to try some less expensive authentic local cuisine. Plus will stop in for a drink to hear some jazz in a courtyard that allows cigar smoking. Any suggestions?
Best Cheap Eats in French Quarter - jazz too
I%26#39;d definitely do a search of this forum, since there%26#39;s a lot of good advice out there.
For jazz, head over to Frenchmen St and check out Snug Harbor and the Spotted Cat.
For cheap eats, try Coop%26#39;s Place, Napoleon House, the Gumbo Shop, Acme Oyster House, Johnny%26#39;s for poboys and Central Grocery/Frank%26#39;s for muffs.

Stanley%26#39;s is also a good place to eat. We had eggs benedict for breakfast and they were excellent. It is in Jackson Square on a corner across from Muriel%26#39;s and the Presbytre. They serve lunch food and have a soda fountain, too. the hours are from 7am-7pm.
Croissant D%26#39;Or is great for an inexpensive breakfast in the FQ, lots of great pastries! The Clover Grill isn%26#39;t exactly authentic NO fare, but it is inexpensive, funky, and sooooo good! We always do Cafe Beignet on Decatur rather than Cafe Dumonde for beignets, much less crowded.
The Deja Vu bar and grill across from the Prince Conti Hotel has good, cheap food and a cast of characters. (This is NOT the strip club of the same name.)
We sure have had some nice meals at Eat at Dauphine and Dumaine
