Hi there, the Maison Dupuy looks like a great hotel with a beautiful courtyard. I%26#39;m just curious about the location...would safety be an issue walking back late at night? I would love to hear any comments from anyone who has stayed there. Thanks!!!
Maison Dupuy
Hi
I%26#39;ve stayed at the Maison Dupuy in May of 2006 along with about 50 of my wedding guests. None of us ever encountered any problems. It is about 2 blocks off of Bourbon Street on the corner of Toulouse and North Rampart. North Rampart is not a very nice area, however you can enter the hotel from the Toulouse Street side.
The Courtyard is very nice as is the pool. Just beware the MD has a lot of weddings and if there is over 100 people at the wedding then the courtyard is closed down to the other guests. But if you like to watch weddings, this is the place to be.
I%26#39;d say just beware when walking back late at night, safety in numbers.
Maison Dupuy
hey dolmatt,
i stayed at the Maison Dupuy in December of last year (weren%26#39;t you down there around that time too?)
I%26#39;ve stayed there twice and really don%26#39;t mind the location at all. I use the Toulouse entrance and then two blocks down is bourbon. Be very specific when requesting rooms, as they can either overlook the courtyard or the street. the pool is excellent in warm weather and the bar at the hotel is lovely. We made friends with the barkeep and he would reguarly deliver our drinks poolside (this was back when I visited in July 2007).
P.P. is correct about the many weddings, but it never really bothered us at all.
When%26#39;re you thinking about coming back?

Hey Kelly, not sure yet. I will definitely be back down in July with friends, but my husband and I are considering a little get-a-way either the end of March or beginning of April..we%26#39;ll see what happens. The Maison Dupuy has a really great rate for the first week in April, so I%26#39;m really considering it. Thanks!!
Kelly, I forgot to ask you how you felt walking back to the hotel late at night. I remember you saying that you went with your husband, did the two of you feel safe walking back...I know it%26#39;s only two blocks from Bourbon...LOL..now I%26#39;m starting to sound like some first time visitors who are afraid of visiting...I%26#39;ve stayed at La Quinta on Camp st and we were fine walking back at night, I%26#39;m assuming we%26#39;ll be ok...just concerned since I%26#39;ve been told by some tour operators that we should never walk past Bourbon late at night.
hi domatt,
you and your husband have the %26#39;fever%26#39; like me, huh? do you troll FQ real estate listings late at night too? ha ha...i do.
i never felt unsafe at all walking back. In fact, if i didn%26#39;t know that the area was deemed %26#39;unsafe%26#39; i never would%26#39;ve given it a second thought. i felt more unsafe walking down canal to the JW.
Go with the Dupuy! i think you%26#39;ll love it. and i%26#39;m so jealous...i won%26#39;t be back until JUNE..
boooooooooo

you can definitely go past Bourbon...collect two hundred dollars and a %26#39;get out of jail%26#39; free card.
My boyfriend and I just stayed at the Maison Dupuy last weekend. In my opinion, you should book there with complete confidence.
It was very nice with a lovely courtyard and clean (if small) rooms. We had a room overlooking the courtyard (unfortunately no balcony) and although we didn%26#39;t eat or drink there, the bar and restaurant seemed nice. The staff was very pleasant throughout our stay (I had heard some bad comments regarding surly front desk staff, but saw no evidence of this at all). As far as the location, it is just fine- although they say Rampart St is bad, you don%26#39;t have to go near it to enter the hotel. It is a short, safe walk to Bourbon, close enough to be walkable and far enough away that you can get away from the frat party atmosphere easily.
There is also a very small, cool and unpretentious irish pub catty corner on Toulouse St. (Fahys) with nice bartenders and a cool house dog.
As far as safety goes, I never felt like I was in danger at any time, and we walked everywhere. We had been warned not to go to the St Louis Cemetary without a tour group, but decided to chance it at 11 am and found the place more crowded with tourists than Grand Central- it was totally safe and very cool. We were glad we had saved ourselves $40 bucks by skipping the tour.
Overall, be smart and alert and NOLA is just as safe as any other urban area. It is also very cool, a lot of fun and filled with friendly and interesting locals! Have fun!
