I will be in New Orleans from March 27-31. It is a family trip, main plan is too eat eat eat. =) especially crawfish.
I found 2 crawfish festivals but I have a few questions.
1) Are they more of a show or more of like little stands where you can buy and eat crawfish?
2) Has anyone been before?
3) What are my best bets for crawfish in New Orleans?
Louisiana Crawfish Boil Championship March 28. Marrero, Immaculate Conception Fairgrounds, 601 Ave. C. 504-304-2670.Only crawfish boiling competition registered with the state, plus rides, music and a raffle
Louisiana Crawfish Festival March 26-29. Civic Center, Judge Perez, Chalmette, La. (504) 329-6411. Eat crawfish, drink and listen to local music.
Crawfish Festivals in March: Some questions
Will you have a car? You%26#39;ll need one for either of these festivals.
Also, they are true ';local festivals'; with a band or two, lots of food and drink, and a fun atmosphere. Would I plan a trip around one? No. But if you%26#39;re already here and can make it over there reasonably easy, I%26#39;d try it.
Crawfish Festivals in March: Some questions
I%26#39;d vote for the Championship in Marrero over the Chalmette Festival, but then again, I%26#39;m biased towards the Westbank :)
not based around it, but is it worth it to go and eat crawfish? or am i better off hitting the normal restaurants?
Well, you can get crawfish at other restaurants. You don%26#39;t have to travel to these festivals to eat crawfish, though it might be fun to venture out one afternoon with the family to an authentic crawfish boil! It%26#39;s the best way to eat crawfish anyway.
But, places like Deanie%26#39;s in the French Quarter and Big Fisherman (Uptown) have crawfish, and you can always pick up a few pounds at these places, which are closer to the touristy action.
where can I find a good crawfish boil? I also plan on hitting all the top restaurants, any advice so i don%26#39;t end up running around in circles? has anyone been to one of the crawfish festivals?
Great places to grab a good boil:
