I'm curious about Antoine's Restaurant

I have been to New Orleans several times, and dined at most of the finer restaurants but I%26#39;m going to Antoine%26#39;s for the first time ever (Yay!) next week, on Saturday night, and I%26#39;m wondering what to expect, or if anyone can recommend one dish or another, something that really made an impression on you?

I'm curious about Antoine's Restaurant

As a matter of full disclosure here, I don%26#39;t like Antoine%26#39;s. However I will say that it%26#39;s a place where I%26#39;d recommend you let your waiter guide your choices. They have all been there forever (part of the problem, IMHO) and they know the menus.

Well, I looked at the menu online, and I pretty much know what I want, but I was going to try and give the people going with me some options. Can you tell me why you don%26#39;t care for it? I will steer us to Commander%26#39;s if necessary...

I%26#39;m not a fan for several reasons. First and foremost, the food is just okay. And it%26#39;s very expensive. Some of the dishes are quite good while others barely edible. Very uneven overall and some of the ingredients (canned!) weren%26#39;t impressive.

The service is ';old-line'; stiff and formal. Not very friendly. Not to say that you can%26#39;t get a friendly server but our last THREE couldn%26#39;t be bothered with us. I get more attentive service at Louisiana Pizza Kitchen!

Finally, I don%26#39;t like the feel of the restaurant. While Galatoire%26#39;s can be formal yet fun, Antoine%26#39;s strikes me more as a ';where old tourists go to eat'; place that is rather somber.

Again, just my opinions. I know others like the place and I%26#39;m sure they will share!

Hmmm, the last thing I want to deal with, or put my guests through, is a bad server, and you said some of the food was CANNED, that is appalling to me with the prices being what they are, so we might skip it and go to Commander%26#39;s anyway. Thaks for the advice!

I am NOT a fan on Antoine%26#39;s at all. I think the food is mediocre and the service is lackluster unless you are a regular. Personally, I would rather eat at Commander%26#39;s Palace anyday! Great service and even better food!

I think you%26#39;re getting the idea, Bridge. I also don%26#39;t care for Antoine%26#39;s and don%26#39;t even consider it in the same category as Galatoire%26#39;s, Commander%26#39;s Palace, Arnaud%26#39;s, and even Broussard%26#39;s. My experiences have ranged from bad-to-okay and for that money, I want great!

I%26#39;ve never been to Broussard%26#39;s, either, is it new? Or am I just not as knowledgeable as I thought about New Orleans? ;)

I think my issue with Galatoire%26#39;s was that we sat upstairs, which was my sister%26#39;s choice, even though I said the downstairs dining room was better. The food was just ok, not fabulous, and I expected more, but then I tend to compare every meal at a fine dining restaurant in New Orleans to my experience at Commander%26#39;s, which is unfair, I know.
