Katrina tour and swamp tour

Hello,

My wife and I will be in New Orleans Mar 30-Apr 2. We were thinking about going on a Hurricane Katrina tour and a swamp tour and were wondering if anyone had any opinions on them.

I%26#39;ve heard the Katrina tour is very educational.

Thanks,

Jeremy

I highly recommend the Honey Island Swamp tours.

For the Katrina tours, they are quite educational, and I would recommend a smaller van company i.e. Tours by Isabelle or Celebration tours. You%26#39;ll see a lot of empty/cleared lots and hear stories of the storm.

Any thoughts on the Gray Line tours? They%26#39;re a little cheaper. My wife and I are teachers so we have to look for good deals :)

The ';Katrina'; tours should be a combo city/hurricane tour by this point. The stories are still fascinating but there just isn%26#39;t much to see in the affected areas other than blighted buildings--and those are disappearing slowly.

Chicago: Yes there are tours of some of the devastated areas here. Whichever one you decide to take, I would make it as short as possible, as there is really not much to see, and I certainly would not refer to this experience as educational. We like to refer to this recurring phenomenon as something to forget.

Swamp tours are all over the place here. One site I recommend is bigeasy.com. You will be able to get into the swamp tour entertainment area, and see how big it really is. Having been in the area forever, I am not into swamp tours, having been here for a long time.

Good luck in your search on line, to educate yourself on the differing swamp tours available in these parts and have a pleasant visit.

You also might look into the Ghost Tours, as they are also in big demand here.

I am, in no way attempting to promote any of these over another as I have no particular axe to grind in either situation.

My big issue with the Grayline tours is that they are big bus tours and residents often complain about these types of tours, as they are more intrusive. If Grayline offers smaller van tours, then I%26#39;d go with those.

The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau has coupons for some of the tour companies. http://www.neworleanscvb.com/
