Hi everyone! My husband and I stayed int he French Quarter for a few days in late February during the Mardi Gras period! We enjoyed the experience although the weather was too cold for us so we didn%26#39;t stay outside as long as we would have liked!
The restaurants we really enjoyed were Acme Oyster House (the chargrilled oysters were great), Gumbo Shop ( loved the gumbo but though the bread pudding sauce was way tooo sweet for our taste), Cafe du Monde beignets and cafe au lait ( yummy), Angeli%26#39;s, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen ( yummy pizzas and salads), Cafe Beignet ( my husband loved thir beignets but i preferred Cafe du Monde%26#39;s).
Surprisngly we didnt enjoy Petunias crepe, it was huge but the chicken in it was awful, dry and no taste or seasoning in it... i guess if we ordered a different filling it would been better... i wished i had ordered the french toast that everyone raves about! We didnt enjoy the po boys at Johnny%26#39;s either, we had an oyster po boy, the bread was tough on that day and oyster a bit fresh...
We also tried alot of the pralines and loved Southern Candymakers and Aunty Sallys! we tried king cakes as well!
We really loved the cajun style food in new orleans, plenty flavour! yum! wish i could go back!
Short trip report on restaurants!
Thanks for your report! I like the Bananas Foster and St. Francis crepes at Petunia%26#39;s. I%26#39;m sorry you didn%26#39;t enjoy Johnny%26#39;s either! But, you hit a lot of great places. Chargrilled oysters are so good!
Short trip report on restaurants!
yea if we had time we would have gone back and tried different items and maybe would have had better experiences at those 2 places! next time!
Sounds great! I don%26#39;t like Petunia%26#39;s either, although it%26#39;s been a long time since I%26#39;ve been there. Everything else sounds like it was wonderful!
Thanks for posting. Petunia%26#39;s is one of the more controversial places mentioned on this board, along with perhaps Mother%26#39;s. I personally dislike both. Johnny%26#39;s is hit-or-miss. I stopped by Saturday and grabbed one to go eat by the river and it was delicious.
ADM,
sorry you weren%26#39;t able to get Uptown and see us. As it turned out, another Trinidadian came by the house for the day! And he brought some great food along! It%26#39;s a small world. Glad you had a good time. So is the Carnival better in Trinidad? Our friend likes it a lot, but not enough to leave here to move back. He%26#39;s decided to stay here.
Yea we d o have great food back here but we%26#39;re accusomed to our food so its good to taste other cuisines as well! Our carnival is a bit differnet from yours, still has lots of costumes and drinking but theres more focus on our music and dancing in the streets and lots of fetes (parties)!
