WE were in NO last year in middle May, have the same trip this year planned with about 20 others. We noticed on Tuesday morning (our day of departure) that all the restaurants for breakfast we had gone to before were closed. Is this customary for a Tuesday?
Tuesday ClosuresAstoria: I, for one cannot even begin to ever imagine a restaurant in New Orleans being closed on a tuesday! Can you be more specific, like maybe some were not serving breakfast beyone a certain time in the morning, as can be the case. Also, it might be the case where some restaurants are closed on Tuesday and this is mainly due to their normally scheduled hours of operation, which excludes a Tuesday. I am not aware of this being the actual case, as it would be more likely that some would be closed on a Monday, after a busy weekend, maybe.
Anyhow, and I am assuming you are speaking of restaurants in the French Quarter, as this is the draw for the New Orleans area, there are a lot of restaurants, smaller ones, that offer breakfast every morning.
Perhaps, as I said above, if you could be more specific on where you will be staying, we might be able to offer suggestions as to which ones are open for your visit.
Good luck.
Tuesday ClosuresParkway Tavern is closed on Tuesdays.
Otherwise, most places are open Tues-Sat. Sundays and Mondays are the more common ';closing'; days. Many restaurants are 7 days a week, which I like...don%26#39;t have to think about it! :-)
Petunia%26#39;s and Cafe du Monde (two popular breakfast places) will be open on Tuesdays.
Typically, attractions (i.e. Aubudon Zoo, Institute, Aquarium) and restaurants (i.e. Casamento%26#39;s) are closed on Mondays.
WE stayed at the Maison Dupuy, I wish I could remember the names of the restarants. We walked to several that we had been to days before and believe me they were closed, We ended coming back to the hotel for breakfast. Hopefully this will not occur this year. Thanks for the replies.
Astoria: One suspicion I would have is the location of the Maison Dupuy, which is on Burgundy and Toulouse Sts. This is almost on the, and within one block of the quarter limits, and could present a problem with not only how many restaurants are nearby, but also the closing you mentioned.
To counter this geographic situation, I would suggest that you and your party, walk toward the River, and begin your breakfast restaurant search in the vicinity of Royal St. This would be about a three block walk, which is not awfully stressful unless the heat/humidity is a factor.
From that point, there are many breakfast places open for you selection, betweek Royal and Canal, and on the side streets between Royal and Bourbon and Chartres Sts. Also, along Decateur from St. Louis St. to Canal St., there are some places to dine for breakfast, lunch etc.
We stumble onto new ones all the time, and have never encountered any closures, unless we were just not necessarily watching for a specific place, which could be the case.
So., have a nice visit, revise your search area and I am sure it will work itself out.
