We will be staying in the French Quarter and want to do a little birding. If anyone knows where we could find a Painted Bunting, that would be really helpful. Does anyone know if it is worth it to go out to Barataria Preserve? We will not have a car. I am sure it wouldn%26#39;t be hard to get a taxi there, but getting back to the city might be a problem. It also sounds like City Park is a good alternative. I have been to Audubon Park and wanted to try something different. I thought about a swamp tour, but honestly, don%26#39;t want to commit to getting up that early and I have done that before as well.
Thanks.
Birding
City Park should be a better bet than Audubon Park. The Barataria Preserve/Jean Lafitte National Park area would be the next best thing to a swamp tour - even better for birding, as you can go at your own pace. You could consider renting a car for a day or programming the taxi cab number into your cell and giving them a 20 minute head start.
