Cutting Back on Hotel Loyality Programs?

The Omni Royal Orleans is the only hotel to stay in the French Quarter. Everytime I see the forum question '; Where to stay in New Orleans?'; I always reply with ';Hands down, the Omni Royal Orleans.'; The hotel is well kept, rooms are clean and their long time employees like Don, Leroy and Stan make your stay memorable. But are hotels like the Omni cutting back on hotel loyality programs in response to the economic times?

We are currently staying at the Omni Royal Orleans and were frequent guests prior to joining the ';Select Guest'; program at the urging of a reservationist. These small incentives were always appreciated and made this hotel stand out above the rest. But our last two stays, especially this one, it is obvious that they are cutting back. After more than one call to the front desk and housekeeping our needs were met and apologies were made. The hotel appears to be unoccupied, which would be normal the day after Easter, so should the staff not be on top of things or are they cutting back?

They used to acknowledge birthdays and anniversaries, give rooms upgrades when occupancy was low and follow through on special offer incentives but that has not been our experience recently. Must be a sign of the times!
