Dog-friendly hotels and cafe's

My husband and I and our small dog will be driving from Austin next weekend and spending a few days in NOLA. Are there nice hotels in the FQ (3-star or higher) that accept pets and also are there some outdoor cafe%26#39;s that will allow us to have our dog sit outside with us while we eat? Of course we%26#39;ll leave our dog at the hotel when we go out at night but we want to include him in the sightseeing during the day as much as possible.

Hotel Monaco was always the nicest hotel with a pet-friendly policy but they%26#39;ve closed their doors. I know there%26#39;s a ';pet-friendly hotels'; site online--try googling it.

Outdoor dining is not very popular in the summer as it%26#39;s very hot. You may try Cafe Amelie on Royal or maybe the few outdoor tables at La. Pizza Kitchen at the French Market. I%26#39;ve seen dogs at both.

Thanks Cajunwave for the suggestions. I have been searching the various travel sites for pet-friendly hotels but was wondering if anyone had any recent personal experience especially now since some of the hotels are closed (like Hotel Monaco) or may not be up to par since Katrina. Some of the pet-friendly sites still list Hotel Monaco as an option even though as you mentioned they%26#39;re not open. Plus since we%26#39;ll have our car, we%26#39;re trying to find the hotels with the best parking options as well.

Thanks again for your help and advice. We look forward to to our visit to the city next weekend!

Hi,

I saw that Royal Street Courtyard allows pets.

I think the Ambassador allows pets, but the recent reviews of it have been awful. I would avoid it.

the website is www.petswelcome.com.

LaQuinta Inns and Suites on Camp takes dogs and is nice. That is where we stay when we drive w/ our dog. Only thing is ... there isnt much area around the hotel to take them out.

Lowe%26#39;s hotel also allows pets and has a ';pet kit'; when you check in.

Thanks all for your helpful suggestions. We ended up booking the Sheraton on Canal street. Their rooms look nice, they have on site parking, and they accept dogs. Plus, it looks like a great location. Does anyone know much about the Sheraton and if there is a grassy area around the hotel to walk our dog?

Your situation is very similar to ours...

May I ask how your trip turned out?

We have heard that New Oleans was one of the most dog friendly cities. Would you mind elaborating or telling me how your experience was?

My husband and I are planning on bringing our two small yorkies with us for a weekend. We usually travel with them, they are well behaved etc. We are not crazy dog people- well maybe a little- but we like to walk and explore the city with the dogs. I am interested in the gift shops and outdoor eateries that we can explore. What sorts of outdoor activities can we do with the dogs? We like to do like a long 2 hour or so walk with them to wear them out, then cage them in the hotel while we go places they cant. It means alot to us to have them there when we get home, to ride in the car with us on the way there, to walk with us while we explore etc... I just wanted to know more about the city and what to expect with them.

I am also wondering about hotels... I don%26#39;t like staying in the crappy pet friendly ones, just because we have our dogs. Our dogs are well behaved and sometimes i feel like the pet friendly hotels are SUPER dirty and make my dogs dirtier!! :) I want a decent hotel that allows dogs at a reasonable rate. How did you trip go?

We will have a car too- interested in parking fees if you happen to remember?

The Lafayette Hotel is also a great pet-friendly hotel, check them out. They will be able to suggest a lot of things to do with your dogs in the city. They are located right across the street from a great grassy park that is ideal for quick bathroom breaks. Also, they had a small self-park parking lot so it was very convenient for us to get our car whenever we needed it. I think it was around $10/day back then.

We had a great time in NOLA with our dog (both times we were there) and I%26#39;m sure you will too.
