Dogs in New Orleans

We are thinking about bringing two small yorkies with us on the trip. Don%26#39;t get me wrong- we are not DOG CRAZY... but we do like to take long walks, explore the city and it is nice to have them with us and when we return. From what I am reading, it appears New Orleans is a pretty dog friendly, casual city. Are there lots of outdoor eaterys? I am hearing that some of the shop owners have dogs and usually let you bring yours in? Is there plenty to see by walking up and down the streets with the dogs? Any recommendations on a place to stay? Cost is an issue... but I hate when you stay in pet friendly places and it is a TOTAL DUMP. Just because my dogs come doesn%26#39;t mean I want to stay in the crappiest hotel. They are well behaved, and we cage them when gone. Any help on a weekend in April with two yorkies would be super helpful. We are in our late 20s, like to walk, like to get to know the culture, like to explore, like to be active, like the ';local'; feel... etc.

Dogs in New Orleans

I just returned from a trip to New Orleans and the weather was great, for the first half anyway... I saw plenty of people out walking their dogs. As for activities in the Quarter, well, it depends on what you want to see or do. I could spend days just roaming the streets and admiring the wonderful architecture, so in that respect, I think there is plenty to see while walking your dogs. Of course, you will not be able to tour attractions, such as the aquarium or museums. I never saw a dog inside a restaurant though... but there are a few restaurants that have outdoor seating were you can sit outside with your dogs. One of which was La Divina which serves gelato and sandwiches. I had gelato there yesterday; it was pretty good. They also serve Frosty Paws, so you and your dogs will be able to enjoy a frozen treat!

The Loews is definitely pet friendly and a great hotel in a good location. I%26#39;d check to see if you can get a good deal with them!

I believe it%26#39;s against state law to have a dog in a restaurant. Do people sometimes ignore this? Probably.

Loews is a great dog-friendly hotel. I highly recommend it. It%26#39;s also expensive but worth it.
