We just got back from a great trip to the Big Easy...we had a great time...
Hotel - Omni Crescent on Gravier
We could not have been happier with the hotel. Everybody we encountered was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean and has been recently updated. The location was perfect, 2 blocks from Canal and 3 blocks from the Casino. We had a great rate of $70 for the first 2 nights and our Friday night was free with the Spring Forward promotion. Parking was about $28 per day, so our total bill for the 3 nights with tax was just over $300鈥uite a deal
Food 鈥?All the food we had was great for the most part.
Gumbo Shop, Mother鈥檚, Malate鈥檚, Yo Mama鈥檚, Lucky Dog (yummy as always), Coop鈥檚 and Fat Harry鈥檚(even though we had really bad service)
Other Stuff
We did the normal touristy stuff on Bourbon St鈥e saw several good bands at the Krazy Korner and Tropical Isle. We spent the most time there during happy hour to take advantage of the cheap drinks.
WWII Museum 鈥?It鈥檚 an easy walk from the hotel and well worth the time if you enjoy history. Many knowledgeable veterans and guides to provide a lot of insight. I鈥檓 anxious to return in a few years after all the expansion is complete.
St Charles Streetcar 鈥?once we found a place that had the 1 day passes ($5 鈥?just off of Canal and Royal) the ride was beautiful as always. We rode down and got off at Napoleon, had lunch and then walked around Loyola and Tulane. It was Spring Break, so the campuses were pretty empty. The ride back was a lot more crowded with school letting out鈥?/p>
Walking around the Riverfront and Jackson Square was entertaining as always. Many street performers, bands and artists.
We haven鈥檛 been to New Orleans since just before Katrina and I鈥檒l say that I really couldn鈥檛 tell a difference in the area or the amount of people. I realize that we stuck to mostly tourist areas, but I was expecting small crowds, so it鈥檚 good to see the area is coming back鈥?
