this is only four star dining if you are from the sticks and don%26#39;t know any better. after working fine dining for the better part of two decades, it%26#39;s obvious that true fine dining escapes the besh ';enterprise';. i have run restaurants and know how important it is to listen to guest complaints, apologize and fix them. this escapes the restaurant august staff. after having courses literally stack up on top of each other, we had to explain that fine dining means having one course cleared before the next is presented. in addition, i%26#39;m a bit of a stickler for truth in advertising. ';slow cooked leg does not imply a horrible farcie of chicken leg, and worse, an overcooked breast that would be less than acceptable at a cheap wedding. add to that the fact that when we tried to talk to the manager, a guest tried to defend a situation he obviously didn%26#39;t understand and was granted a voice above myself and my wife, who were trying to help the restaurant not get eviscerated by the next food critic, and you%26#39;ve got a recipe for disaster. i suppose it would be fair to say that other diners were exposed to a ';hit and miss'; scenario of food and service. do you really want to spend hard earned dollars on a potential nightmare. the crescent city has dozens of better options. please don%26#39;t buy into the chef behind the green curtain.
stay away from restaurant august...
I%26#39;m sorry about your experience, but hopefully, it was just an off-night. I%26#39;ve always had a good time at Restaurant August. I also like John Besh%26#39;s Luke, which is more casual.
stay away from restaurant august...
I%26#39;m always wary of first-time posts slamming a business, especially from someone who claims to be in the same trade. Interesting...
I%26#39;ve never been to August, but I say that my one experience at Luke was a disappointment. The ';problem'; with a city like New Orleans is there are so many good places to go so I rarely bother to go back and give the rare ';clunker'; a second chance.
This review is crap. One post. Readers beware. There is obviously another agenda to this post. I read the last 5 diner reviews from Zagats, and all have raved about the food and service.
I%26#39;m suspicious of the posting but anyone who has problems in any restaurant should see the manager on duty or the very least write a clear, concise and polite letter to the management. I%26#39;ve been at an event John Besh specially catered with his staff and the food was excellent.
I suspect there is a troll at work here, and would be surprised if the OP ever posted again. There is probably more to this than meets the eye....
We had a truly amazing meal at August and would not hesitate for an instant to return!
As someone who dines in very good restaurants around the world, I%26#39;ll be glad to take the original poster%26#39;s place at August any day!
Any new reataurants open in the vicinity? Maybe with a windy city chef/owner?
Chicago: We have always found the fine dining experience at Restaurant August to be first rate, beyone a doubt. The waitstaff is expressly cognitive of the entire menu and more than astute about their current arrangements.
Whenever we consider the best restaurants in the area, Restaurant August is in the numbers, especially for special occasions and the like. Also, they are one of the few that offer valet parking, with friendly attendants.
Cannot help of noticing that you have but one post and it is to chastize one of our finest restaurants.
This is a friendly forum here in New Orleans, perhaps you need to confine your remarks to Chicago forums. They might more appreciate your comments.
We had a problem the last time we ate at Restaurant August in January. We did send an email in detail of the situation and to date, we have not gotten a response from anyone. We usually eat at Restaurant August every time we go to New Orleans which is 4 to 5 times year and this was the first time we had a problem. In their defense, they did comp the entree that there was a problem with. However, I wanted management to be made aware of the situation and that is why we sent the email. The night we went there was a new maitre de on duty and we found him to be less than plesant. Even though we did not receive a response from them, we do plan on dining there again. We were very surprised that we never got a response to the email especially since we resent it two weeks later.
I think you absolutely can%26#39;t rely on e-mail. I%26#39;d print a hard copy of your complaint and mail it via US Mail.
